Stellantis Postpones Ram Electric Pickup Trucks to 2025 Amid Quality Assurance Efforts

Stellantis Delays Ram Electric Pickup Trucks to 2025

Stellantis has announced a delay in the release of its Ram electric pickup trucks, initially slated for 2024, pushing the launch to the first half of 2025. The lineup includes the fully electric Ram “REV” and the extended-range Ramcharger, which features an onboard generator powered by a 27-gallon, 3.6-liter V6 engine. CEO Carlos Tavares emphasized the importance of thorough product testing to ensure quality, stating, “We don’t want to rush… It’s better to take a few weeks more to validate properly than to make mistakes in terms of quality.”

This cautious approach comes as Stellantis juggles a packed schedule, including completing work on other electric vehicles like the Dodge Charger Daytona and Jeep Wagoneer S, both expected to hit the market by the end of this year.

A Platform for the Future

The new Ram electric pickups will debut on Stellantis’ STLA Frame platform, specifically designed for larger trucks and SUVs. This platform is versatile, supporting internal combustion engines, hybrids, and advanced electric systems, including battery electric, fuel cells, and range-extended propulsion technologies.

Stellantis has confirmed the REV model will achieve 500 miles on a single charge, while the Ramcharger is expected to lead its class with a combined range of up to 690 miles. The Ramcharger’s dual-power system allows it to operate as a zero-emission vehicle until its battery depletes, at which point the onboard generator activates to maintain operation.

Balancing Workload and Priorities

According to Tavares, Stellantis is managing its workload strategically, focusing on validating current projects before shifting full attention to the Ram electric trucks. “We are just facing a very significant amount of workload,” Tavares explained. “We are managing the peak between the products that we have ahead of us. There’s a huge product blitz coming to the U.S. market in the next few months.”

Challenges in the U.S. EV Market

The delay comes during a critical period for the automaker. Political uncertainties in the U.S., including a possible rollback of EV tax credits by the incoming administration, could impact consumer demand. Despite these challenges, Tavares assured stakeholders that Stellantis will adapt to any regulatory changes while continuing to push forward with its ambitious electrification plans.
